Lapso

Lapso: Colaboration with clarinetist and composer Jose Benito Meza, native of Valledupar, Colombia, Lapso began in 1999 in Bogota, Colombia, as a contemporary improvisation duet and has performed in public venues in Bogota and in Boston at the Jordan Hall. During the following years both musicians had collaborated in an extensive search of the rhythms of the atlantic coast of Colombia, writing numerous pieces mixing jazz Colombian music and contemporary improvisation.

In 2008 Lapso was commissioned by France-based artist Rebecca Whipple to score the music for the short film "Steve Martin on the Loose" which was premiered at the Philadelphia Film Festival. Currently Lapso is preparing a recording with all new material. ~

Surca

Surca: spanish for the verb to forrow, was an inspirational name and a vehicle for Gabriel Guerrero's project a mutual colaboration with saxophonist/composer Daniel Blake both students of Steve Lacy and Danilo Perez. Surca began its journey in Boston in 2002 with a diverse repertorie influenced by the jazz tradition, the Avant-Garde and South-American rhythms. The band had Jorge Roeder on bass, and Jorge Perez Albela on drums. Other guests included bassist Edward Perez, and drummers Richie Barshay and Pedro Ito . Surca performed through New England including a weekly residence at the Green St Grill. Audios from the band are available at the Music section. ~
